Discussion:
11,000 scientists warn of 'untold suffering' caused by climate change

More than 11,000 researchers from around the world on Tuesday issued a
grim warning of the "untold suffering" that will be caused by climate
change if humanity doesn't change its ways.

The group said that as scientists, they have the "moral obligation to
tell it like it is."

Phoebe Barnard, one of the lead authors of the report and the chief
science and policy officer at the Conservation Biology Institute, a
nonprofit science group, told CNN the report makes it clear "there's no
more wiggle room" for policymakers.

"Posterity will remember them badly for dismissing climate change as a
serious threat to our civilization," she said:

it is a VERY good thing that checkmate is prepared he will have non tainted water and he's not worried about the marauding survivors and rotting corpses and the plague if a rat or fly drags it off of a festering corpse within a mile of his bunker. he will have a bounty of fresh vegetables and groceries from sam's club plus he ordered the 5 gallon buckets of food from the evangelist jebus paid advertisement, probly.

Or, you could just look in the nearest available reflective surface.

They are hedging their bets by calling Pluto a *dwarf planet*.

A dwarf human is still a human just as a dwarf planet is still
a planet.

What these so-called scientists succumbed to is liberalism and
Orwellian "Newspeak". They set science aside in favor of the
politics of the left. And, these same goons expect us thinking
folks to believe their stance on AGW is anything but political?
They can call it science until pigs fly but it will remain politics.

It is to LAFF!

Remember idiot journo-libs do not do quantity. Sure if Nads cuts one of
"her" stinky farts it COULD perhaps change climate some amount so small
that God himself would have trouble measuring it. But Alarmist pretend
that ANY amount is somehow the same as a significant amount. Truth is
that America could shut all anthropogenic CO2 production to ZERO and it
would absolutely NO significant change in world climate. That is
scientific truth.

Go pester someone else with your dark energy questions.
Are you referring to the post gergles made earlier?

Pretty funny stuff. Gergs thinks cosmology is where he gets his hair

Go pester someone else with your dark energy questions.
Greg thinks cosmology is where he gets his hair done.
No, Greg's "dark energy" (entropy) post was up-to-date,
and it backs-up what I've been saying for years now.

"The Big Rip" is replacing the concordance model, Lambda-CDM;
22 billion years now, the Hubble "constant" will be infinite.

Quoting "Futurism.COM", January 2019:

Guido Risaliti and a colleague at Durham University laid out
the provocative observations in a new paper published in
the prestigious journal "Nature Astronomy".

The duo examined x-ray and ultraviolet data from
telescopes pointed at nearly two thousand quasars,
which are huge black holes that spit out epic beams of energy.

What they found was surprising.

The new readings indicate that objects in the universe
aren’t just [ accelerating away ],
but are doing so at a quickening pace.

According to the researchers, this suggests that
dark energy is getting stronger as the universe ages.

Today's black holes are nothing like they used to be.

12.5 billion years ago, quasar J2157-3602 had
the luminosity of 695 trillion suns ( 2.66×10^41 Watts ).

695 trillion suns.

Lambda, the cosmological "constant", is growing.

In physics, entropy is how evenly heat/matter are distributed.
Our hot/dense sun evaporates into the cold/sparse vacuum,
losing 4.3 million tons each second.

Our Universe is going from infinitely hot/dense to infinitely cold/sparse.
"God" (nature) programmed us to ride this wave
( i.e. to sustainably consume residual exergy ), same as the sun.

Um, no! It directly contradicts your speculation, Mr. Relf.

What the new research, using quasar lensing to pull in
very distant galaxies and mathematical formula, is that
the Hubble constant *becomes smaller* with distance.

This means slowing of universe expansion the further
from the center one goes - not speeding up. This is
the opposite of what you claim and what astrophysicists,
in general, have been claiming. It remains to be seen if
the slowing is enough to eventually grind the expansion
to a halt so a static (or even contracting) universe results.

See what I mean, JR? Gergles doesn't realize that the further away we
peer into the sky, the further back in time we are looking.

_Basic_ astronomy due to the speed of light (which is the speed of
information).

Gerky, here's how it works:

Say you measure the cosmological constant 1 billion light years away.
This gives the the CC as it was _one billion years ago_.

Then you measure it in the local neighborhood. This is a measurement
closer to "now", and low and behold, the CC is showing accelerated
expansion.

Do you freakin' get it now?

You can't measure the Hubble constant "in the local neighborhood";
3 million light years is the minimum distance, from here.

Also, the acceleration is accelerating -- "The Big Rip";
" dark energy is getting stronger as the universe ages. ".
Do you freakin' get it now?
I know Greg got it wrong, he always does;
people like him can't fathom entropy.
He can't work out the difference between eXergy and energy.

Nevertheless, he cited a _ very important study;
Guido Risaliti, and many others, are
overturning the concordance model of cosmology.

What "disproves global warming" (actually human-caused global warming)
is that it is not happening, as well as the huge amount of distortions,

The "97%" is a lie. The so-called "consensus" is based on a flawed
college study and does not mean what the climate cultists and alarmists
claim that it does. The "consensus" on this issue is a fraud.
Post by chrisv
One of them is selling a book, I see.
Apparently you believe that selling a book somehow invalidates what he
has to say. Believe it or not, members of the climate cult have been
known to sell books. Does that invalidate what they are saying as well?

Basically what you have in the climate cult a religion that demands its
followers give up whatever their priesthood requires in order to appease
their angry god. That makes it virtually impossible to have a rational
discussion with a climate cultist. Their arguments are based on emotion
and faith rather than facts.

The fact is that climate science, including modeling and predictions
based on necessarily simplified models, is a complex issue plagued with
uncertainty. The level of certainly claimed by the alarmists and cultists
is not justified by science or observation.

One of the favorite tactics of the climate cultists is to brand sceptics
as "deniers." The despicable term "denier" is intentionally used to
link skeptics to holocaust deniers. However, the concerns of skeptics are
legitimate and the debate is real and ongoing, The views of the skeptics
are routinely misrepresented in the media, politicans, and rank-and-file
cultists as deluded cranks, dishonest, or paid shills for industry.

Meanwhile, the repeated adjustments made to the temperature record,
always in a way that aligns the data with claims of the alarmists,
raises legitimate concerns. Distortions and outright lies have been
rampant. Additionally the motives of those providing the funding for
the alarmists (always far more than provided for skeptical scientists)
are highly questionable due to conflict of interest. Follow the money
and the power (infinite capacity to tax and control for governments)
to understand the motivations for bias and fraud.

It is also telling that the elitists pushing the fraud of human-caused
climate crisis do not themselves act as though any such crisis exists.
They continue to jet around the world for conferences, live in huge
energy-hungry homes, travel in fossil-fuel sucking fleets of SUVs, and
continue to buy oceanfront property in the face of "disastrous" rising
sea levels. Not one to my knowledge is leading by example. (Apparently
conservation and sacrifice are just for the little people.)

Those who actually want to research the issue rather than duckspeak the
Party line might want to look into former alarmists who are now skeptics,
such as Judith Curry. (For her trouble she was banished from her former
team and slandered as a heretic.) For that matter anyone who bothers
to actually do some research will quickly find that the "certainty"
of human-caused global warming is actually far from certain.

One thing I can tell you with absolute certainty is that I will not lift
a finger to lower my "carbon footprint" - I will not buy energy-efficient
appliances, will not buy a hybrid or electric car, will not even give
up using incandescent lights.

Because it is. And the Trump "presidency" (if I may use that term loosely)
is the biggest self-own of all. "Trump is fighting for us," they cry,
claiming he has made great accomplishments, but in reality Trump is
fighting for the top 0.01% of the income distribution, and particularly

the poor, with the occasional potshot at LGBTQ citizens no doubt done to

Fortunately, he's fighting like a drunk chipmunk who's gone senile and

in any of his braindead trade wars, and the various investigations into
his and his family's corruption doggedly persist in not going away and
leaving him alone. And his net approval is underwater by double digits,
with Rapepublican politicians up for reelection who hitch their wagons
to his finding that he's an anchor around their necks as they lose to
Dems in deep-red states, boding ill for Trump's own 2020 prospects ... if,
that is, he can manage to outrun the long arm of the law for long enough
to even make it unimpeached to next November's elections.

Meanwhile, the conditions of the average Trump voter continue to
deteriorate. The manufacturing and coal jobs didn't come back, but the
cost of living has risen due to the impact on commodity prices of Trump's
stupid trade wars (especially the boneheaded one with China -- what was he
*thinking*?) ... the racist contingent still can't get away with using the
"N" word in polite company ... and their life expectancies continue
dropping as the (further-deregulated!) pharmaceutical industry continues
to exploit their opioid addictions (the addicts in these froups know who

So much winning!

They continue to jet around the world for conferences, live in huge

Those who actually want to research the issue rather than duckspeak the
Party line might want to look into former alarmists who are now skeptics,
such as Judith Curry. (For her trouble she was banished from her former
team and slandered as a heretic.)
What was her price?
Post by Roger Blake
One thing I can tell you with absolute certainty is that I will not lift
a finger to lower my "carbon footprint" - I will not buy energy-efficient
appliances, will not buy a hybrid or electric car, will not even give
up using incandescent lights.
So, basically you're donating hundreds of dollars a year to PG&E to own
the libs.
Why is it that almost everything you people do to "own the libs" looks
an awful lot like a *self*-own upon close inspection?
Because it is. And the Trum... <<<SMACK!!!>>>

And the Trump "presidency" (if I may use that term loosely)
is the biggest self-own of all. "Trump is fighting for us," they cry,
claiming he has made great accomplishments, but in reality Trump is
fighting for the top 0.01% of the income distribution, and particularly
for Trump himself. And meanwhile is is fighting against women, POC, and
the poor, with the occasional potshot at LGBTQ citizens no doubt done to
please Mike Pence.
Fortunately, he's fighting like a drunk chipmunk who's gone senile and
half-blind. After three years there is still no Wall, still no "victory"
in any of his braindead trade wars, and the various investigations into
his and his family's corruption doggedly persist in not going away and
leaving him alone. And his net approval is underwater by double digits,
with Rapepublican politicians up for reelection who hitch their wagons
to his finding that he's an anchor around their necks as they lose to
Dems in deep-red states, boding ill for Trump's own 2020 prospects ...
if, that is, he can manage to outrun the long arm of the law for long
enough to even make it unimpeached to next November's elections.
Meanwhile, the conditions of the average Trump voter continue to
deteriorate. The manufacturing and coal jobs didn't come back, but the
cost of living has risen due to the impact on commodity prices of
Trump's stupid trade wars (especially the boneheaded one with China --
what was he *thinking*?) ... the racist contingent still can't get away
with using the "N" word in polite company ... and their life
expectancies continue dropping as the (further-deregulated!)
pharmaceutical industry continues to exploit their opioid addictions
(the addicts in these froups know who they are).
So much winning!
By Dems, and especially the Sanders/AOC wing of the party.
<snicker>
So ... which part of that struck the nerve? The criticisms of Trump? The
implication that Trump's non-superrich supporters are fecking eedjits? The
reference to opioid addicts? The Dem victories in recent elections? The
impeachment inquiry gaining steam? Some combination of the above?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Climate warming, MY ACHING ASS! Have you gone
outside lately. It's only November and it's colder than
fuck. Hundreds of all-time cold records falling right
and left. More snow than usual. Earlier snows than
usual.
You warmingtards sure enjoy living in a fake reality.
See: you think your ignorance of the basics of science somehow weaken
the science. When you have an overall AVERAGE increase in temperature
that does not mean, nor even imply, that this means it will be hot
everywhere at all times. In fact, the models predicted -- and we are
seeing -- that there would be higher highs AND strong cold spells. The
AVERAGE is hotter... and this leads to greater storms and the like
(storms come, in part, from hot and cold air meeting).

Your ignorance does not in any way weaken the science. Not at all.

Their argument boils down to they do not understand science and thus
somehow that should weaken it. Or something equally idiotic... they

To the Holocaust? That's a new one on me. Got a Wiki-grade

It's just another *ridiculous* lie, from the right-winger. No such
link is implied.

"Denier" is a factual description. As usual, it's the right-wingers

In true right-wing fashion, they then accuse the left of what the
right is guilty of!

The right-winger is lying again. It's the deniers who, amazingly,
attack the climate scientists as "lying for money". Which, of course,
makes no sense at all, since it's the big money is on the polluter's
side.

With certainty we can state that none of the alarmist consequences
predicted by environmentalists over the last 50 years have come to
pass. There is no evidence that any of their current predictions
will either. They are not even close to anything resembling a tiny
shred of credibility, let alone certainty.

There are no "consequences."

YOU are the "deniers" - denying the reality that climate change is
a natural phenomenon, and denying the reality that we are not going
to control the earth's climate with electric cars, funny light bulbs,
or any of the other nonsense you scumbags are trying to force on us.

As usual, it is the left-wingers accusing others of what they themselves
are guilty of. Leftists are utter and complete filth.

Another lie from a leftist turd. First of all we are not discussing
pollution because CO2 is not a pollutant. Second of all, governments
have virtually infinite money to spend on the cultists' side, and
governments are the ones who stand to gain the most from the fairy
tale of human-caused global warming. (Governments thrive on power
and stolen money. This gives the the exuse to crank up both.)

What the new research, using quasar lensing to pull in
very distant galaxies and mathematical formula, is that
the Hubble constant *becomes smaller* with distance.
Right, the Hubble constant is smallest at the CMBR,
at the start of the Big Bang, and grows larger with time.
22 billion years from now, it'll be infinite.

Quoting "Futurism.COM", January 2019:

The new readings indicate that objects in the universe
aren’t just [ accelerating away ],
but are doing so at a quickening pace.

According to [ Guido Risaliti ], this suggests that
dark energy is getting stronger as the universe ages.

Look it up, if you dare.
"The Big Rip" is replacing the concordance model, Lambda-CDM.
That's big news, and I knew about it many years ago.

Our Universe is going from infinitely hot/dense to infinitely cold/sparse.
"God" (nature) programmed us to ride this wave
( i.e. to sustainably consume residual eXergy ), same as the sun.

"The Big Rip" is replacing the concordance model, Lambda-CDM;
22 billion years now, the Hubble "constant" will be infinite.
The question is, what do any of the Democrat presidential hopefuls
plan to do about it since they claim to be so concerned about
"the environment".

America could shut all anthropogenic CO2 production to ZERO and it

scientific truth.
No, it's balderdash. Poppycock. Balloonjuice!

Fake physicist. That much is clear from your posts. Star formation is

you think we need proof you are a fake physicist? Even a drooling

Nope, just astrophysics. Though astrophysics does provide many of the

lower bounds on the age of the cosmos, and so on and so forth.

"Age of Cosmos" sure sounds like like cosmology to me. Oh wait, you are
a journo and logic and thinking have no place in their minds. If you
were really other than a fake physicist you'd know that it is Cepheid
that show that the whole BB (and thus the "age" of the universe) is a
house of cards and the biggest mistake ever in physics. You have pretty
big balls (and tiny brain) to think that a journo like you can pass
yourself off as a person of science. Journos know no science and neither
do libs. You are one huge FAKE 'kensi" or should I say "Paul"?

I expect kensi means astrophysicists can determine the ages of individual
stars, and that cosmologists may then infer that the universe is no younger
than the oldest of these. Is that correct, kensi?
